Lake Ouachita State Park to Host “Lake Ouachita State Park Rocks!”

Lake Ouachita State Park in Mountain Pine will host “Lake Ouachita State Park Rocks!” on September 14, 2013. The event is designed to celebrate the unique geology that can be found at Lake Ouachita State Park and the surrounding Ouachita Mountains. Park visitors can bring their favorite rock or mineral for identification, take a guided barge tour to see some of Lake Ouachita’s most interesting geological features, and discover the wonders of one of our most abundant rocks: quartz, through our guest speaker, Mr. Doug Hanson from the Arkansas Geological Survey. This is an all day event jam-packed with activities that are both educational and fun for the entire family! Bring a meal and make use of our many picnic areas. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 9:15 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages. Tickets for the barge tour are $9 for adults, $5 for kids between the ages of 6 and 12, and children under the age of 6 can ride for free. Reservations are required. Come and enjoy some family time in the outdoors and discover why Lake Ouachita State Park rocks!
